Why Nemesis?

A second-generation Greek goddess, Nemesis was a winged daughter of Nyx whose beauty matched Aphrodite's.

 

Nemesis symbolizes indignation at injustice and divine punishment for the excessive behavior of mortals. Her essential function was to restore balance when justice ceases to be practiced. In Greek, the word means to distribute; thus, Nemesis is distributive justice.

 

Nemesis represents the force responsible for overcoming all excess – hubris. This is a fundamental concept of the Hellenic spirit: “everything that rises above its condition, whether in good or evil, exposes itself to the reprisals of the gods. It tends, in effect, to subvert the order of the world, to endanger the universal balance and, therefore, had to be punished to ensure that the universe remained as it was.”
