The Institute materializes the positive repercussions surrounding discussions on the role of the Judiciary in the national political and economic scenario, notably regarding the development of themes such as "Judicialization", "Legal Security", "Judicial Protagonism", "Exacerbated Paternalism", "Economic Impacts of Judicial Decisions", among others.

Founded on January 4, 2016, we are a private legal entity with nationwide scope and an indefinite duration. We are a non-profit, pluralistic, multidisciplinary, egalitarian, and non-partisan civil association with a scientific, technical, legal, pedagogical, and cultural purpose. We operate nationwide, with the option of establishing state chapters or accrediting regional representatives.

In order to fulfill its purposes, the Nêmesis Institute, its directors and associates, in all their actions, will be guided by the principles of legality, impartiality, morality, publicity, economy and efficiency.

Why Nemesis?

Nemesis, a second-generation Greek goddess, was one of the daughters of the goddess Nyx (the night). As beautiful as Aphrodite, she was usually depicted in winged form.

Nemesis symbolizes indignation at injustice and divine punishment for the excessive behavior of mortals. Its essential function was to restore balance when justice ceases to be practiced. In Greek, the word means to distribute; thus, Nemesis represents distributive justice.

Nemesis represents the force responsible for striking down all excess—Hibrys. This is a fundamental concept of the Hellenic spirit: "everything that rises above its station, whether in good or evil, exposes itself to reprisals from the gods. It tends, in fact, to subvert the order of the world, to endanger the universal balance, and therefore should be punished to ensure that the universe remains as it was."
